CLIME Work in Progress: Advancing Diabetes Competency in Physical Therapy: A National Study of Doctor of Physical Therapy Education

Despite physical therapists’ recognized role in diabetes self-management, diabetes-specific content is not required in Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) curricula, and research shows many practicing PTs lack adequate diabetes knowledge. This mixed-methods study surveys U.S. DPT programs and interviews program directors to assess current diabetes education and identify curricular gaps. Findings will inform the development of targeted educational modules to strengthen diabetes training for future and practicing clinicians.
