CLIME Grand Rounds | Looking Beyond the Individual: How Group Emotions Shape Medical Education
Dr. Meghan McConnell, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Innovation in Medical Education at the University of Ottawa. Her research examines how individual, interpersonal, and group-level emotions shape learning, performance, and wellbeing in medical education and clinical practice.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Recognize how emotions emerge and spread within learner groups, clinical teams, and educational communities.
- Describe how group emotions can influence learning, collaboration, engagement, and psychological safety.
- Identify strategies clinical educators and leaders can use to respond to and shape group emotions in ways that support effective learning environments.
