Participants will practice identifying and fixing common accessibility issues, including document structure and headings, meaningful links, images and alt text, lists, tables, and other formatting choices. You’ll also explore Word’s built-in accessibility tools and leave with strategies you can put into practice right away.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how accessibility practices support users with a wide range of disabilities and learning needs
  • Identify accessibility issues in Word documents
  • Apply accessibility best practices for headings, tables, lists, links, images, blank space, and color

Session descriptions written with assistance from ChatGPT

Optional office hours will follow the session, giving you time to practice with a sample presentation or your own slides.

Part of the Accessibility in Action Series
The Department of Justice requires digital content to be accessible under the Americans with Disabilities Act by April 2027. CLIME and SOMALT have partnered to offer this three-part series to help UW educators meet this requirement and create more inclusive learning environments. Each session stands on its own, and you can register for one or all three using the same form.

Other sessions in the series:

  • Designing Pressbooks for Access and Understanding: Thursday, March 4, 2027
