Audrea Burns, PhD
Dr. Burns is an educator, scientist, and leader dedicated to advancing professional identity formation through a social justice lens. She completed her graduate studies in Immunology at The University of Chicago and a postdoctoral fellowship in science education at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), where she also completed the Master Teachers Fellows Program.
At BCM, she co-developed a curriculum for physician-scientist training focused on dual professional identities and serves as Associate Program Director for the Pediatrician-Scientist residency track. She is Co-Director of the Texas Children’s Hospital Faculty College and a Scholar in the Center for Research, Innovation, and Scholarship in Medical Education. She also holds a co-primary appointment in the Department of Education, Innovation, and Technology and serves as its DEI Ambassador.
Nationally, Dr. Burns co-chairs several initiatives focused on belonging and identity formation for minoritized trainees and junior physician-scientists, including roles with the Association of Pediatric Program Directors, the National Pediatrician-Scientist Collaborative Workgroup, and the Council on Pediatric Subspecialties.

Dr.Burns highlights current challenges in professionalism through discussion of emerging frameworks to support an antiracist and inclusive environment to allow for all members of the medical education community to flourish.
