Clinical Assistant Professor, Medical Genetics
Lauren Puryear is a Clinical Assistant Professor and board-certified genetic counselor at the University of Washington. She teaches graduate courses on Clinical Skills, Adult Genetics, and Advanced Concepts in Genetic Counseling for the UW Genetic Counseling Graduate Program. She has developed an education-focused rotation for genetic counseling students who are interested in teaching. Lauren co-teaches an advanced communication skills workshop for CLIME. Before returning to Stanford for genetic counseling training in 2014, Lauren worked as a teacher and trainer in nonprofit organizations and public schools.

Interactive Learning in Medical Education: Teach More Effectively by Talking Less
This talk describes some of the benefits of interactive learning activities for multiple types of medical trainees. It uses one standardized patient activity developed at UW as an example to highlight best practices in designing interactive learning cases. Finally, it shares some other examples of interactive learning activities to spark ideas for how attendees could use.
