SUMMARY:CLIME Conversation Cafe: Competency-Based Education\, Assessment in Foundations
DESCRIPTION:Conversation Cafe: Competency-Based Education | Assessment in Foundations\n \n \n \n \n \n Friday\, September 18\, 2026 | 11:00am-12:00pm (AK)\, 12:00pm-1:00pm (PT)\, 1:00pm-2:00pm (MT) \n \n \n \n \n \n Heather McPhillips\, MD\, UWSoM Vice Dean of Academic Affairs \n \n \n \n \n \n While Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) is often discussed in the clinical learning environment\, the Foundations phase at UWSOM offers important opportunities to help students build habits of a master adaptive learner that include recognizing what they do not yet know\, making a plan to learn it\, seeking and using feedback\, and adjusting their approach over time. In the Foundations phase\, this means helping students practice curiosity\, motivation\, growth mindset\, and resilience early — not only so they master foundational science\, but so they learn how to keep adapting as physicians as science evolves.  It also offers some yet untapped opportunities in our courses to more holistically assess our students and coach them on key competencies such as interpersonal and communication skills\, professional behaviors\, practice-based learning and improvement\, and systems-based practice. \n \n Register

SUMMARY:CLIME Grand Rounds | From Simulation to Clinical Practice: Building Psychological Safety
DESCRIPTION:CLIME Grand Rounds | From Simulation to Clinical Practice: Building Psychological Safety\n \n \n \n \n \n Karen Mangold\, MD\, MEd\, Associate Professor\, Pediatrics (Emergency Medicine)\, Medical Education\, Northwestern Medicine\, Feinberg School fo Medicine \nSimulation educators routinely use evidence-informed techniques to create psychologically safe environments that support learning\, risk-taking\, and honest reflection. In this session\, participants will explore practical strategies including pre-briefing techniques and facilitating reflective debriefing. The lecture will focus on how these approaches can be intentionally translated from the simulation center to everyday clinical teaching environments\, helping educators foster trust\, engagement\, and growth while maintaining high standards for patient care and learner performance. \n \n \n \n \n \n Thursday\, October 8\, 202611:00am-12:00pm (AKT)12:00pm-1:00pm (PT)1:00pm-2:00pm (MT) \n \n \n \n \n \n In support of improving patient care\, The University of Washington School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)\, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)\, and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)\, to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. \n The University of Washington School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 4 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. (Each session is worth 1 credit) \n \n Register

SUMMARY:CLIME Conversation Cafe: Early Providers Navigating Transitions into Rural Medicine
DESCRIPTION:Conversation Cafe: Five Miles In and Two Thousand Feet Up: Early Providers Navigating Transitions into Rural Medicine\n \n \n \n \n \n Thursday\, December 3\, 2026 | 11:00am-12:00pm (AK)\, 12:00pm-1:00pm (PT)\, 1:00pm-2:00pm (MT) \n \n \n \n \n \n Ashley Dennis\, PhD \n \n \n \n \n \n Join us for a conversation cafe featuring Ashley Dennis\, PhD\, who will discuss this CLIME-funded research project exploring how recently graduated physicians\, nurse practitioners\, and physician assistants experience the transition into rural clinical practice. Using longitudinal interviews conducted at two time points over providers’ first three years\, the study drew on Jindal-Snape’s Multiple and Multi-dimensional Transitions Theory and Gordon et al.’s Transition-to-Trained-Doctor model to identify what helps early providers build the support systems they need to thrive in rural healthcare settings. \nThe findings are presented in a striking format: a comic anthology that visualizes composite narratives from the interview data\, making the complexity of these transitions accessible to a wider audience\, including the very communities that support providers as they settle into rural practice. \nCome hear directly from Dr. Dennis about the project\, the process of translating interview data into visual storytelling\, and what it means for how we support the next generation of rural providers. \n \n Register

Using data from 29 medical trainees\, the team will compare trajectory scores to expert video review\, refine the scoring algorithm to improve correlation\, and apply the optimized algorithm to new trainee data from a July 2026 bootcamp. Results aim to establish a cost-effective\, objective method for real-time feedback in FNL simulation training.Date and TimeFriday\, March 12\, 202711:00am-12:00pm (AK)\, 12:00pm-1:00pm (PT)\, 1:00pm-2:00pm (MT)Zoom (Link will be in Confirmation Email) \n \n \n \n \n \n Registration: CLIME WIP: Assessing the Validity of Automated Scoring in Nasolaryngoscopy Simulation

Yet for many people with disabilities who participate in sports\, standard care isn’t enough. They often need individualized modifications or specialized equipment to participate\, which is the domain of adaptive sports medicine. Despite this need\, adaptive sports content is rarely integrated into rehabilitation medicine training\, leaving gaps in both knowledge and clinical care. \nThis project aims to address that gap by developing a comprehensive Adaptive Sports Program within UW Rehabilitation Medicine. The program will focus on three goals: creating dedicated adaptive sports curriculum\, establishing sustainable partnerships with local adaptive sports organizations\, and increasing awareness of Rehabilitation Medicine services among adaptive athletes and their communities. The program will be designed and evaluated using established implementation science frameworks to ensure it is effective\, sustainable\, and scalable\, ultimately building lasting expertise among UW Rehabilitation Medicine clinicians\, faculty\, and graduates.Date and TimeThursday\, April 22\, 20271:00pm-2:00pm (AK)\, 2:00pm-3:00pm (PT)\, 3:00pm-4:00pm (MT)Zoom (Link will be in Confirmation Email) \n \n \n \n \n \n Registration: CLIME Work in Progress: Building Expertise of UW Rehab Medicine Professionals in Adaptive Sports
